Free Cooling in Commercial and Industrial Applications
"Free" cooling is a design situation where there is a cooling source ready at hand to take advantage of, a source which doesn't cost anything and allows the idling of expensive refrigeration-based cooling systems. A few examples are:
- Office building where the interior is warm enough to require cooling, but outside conditions are cool enough that a cooling tower can be used directly, without the need to run the chiller.
- Body of water nearby, providing a ready source of cooling water instead.
- Wastewater treatment plant discharges water that is 56°F year-round, even in hot weather.
In all of these applications, the key to making it work is to isolate the "free" cooling media from the rest of the system while still ensuring the maximum heat transfer to cool the building or process.
Our heat exchangers deliver the solution, delivering these benefits:
- High Heat Transfer Efficiency. Approach temperatures as close as 1°F mean the maximum benefit from the "free" source. This comes from our proprietary Optiwave™ technology, which ensures full use of the entire heat transfer surface area.
- Compact Size. Our plate heat exchangers are a fraction the size of comparably-performing shell-and-tube heat exchangers, especially desirable in a retro-fit situation.
- Low Fouling Rate. The high turbulence in the plate pack means a long time between required maintenance.
- Easy Cleanability. Completetly openable, with replaceable gaskets and plates.
Especially well-suited are the NT Series and NA Series.
