Sugar
Efficiency for your energy balance
To meet the global increase in demand for sugar with consistent quality and without allowing production costs to explode, GEA PHE Systems has developed carefully designed engineering solutions for the processing of sugar beet and sugar cane. The energy is completely used by plate heat exchangers through evaporation, condensing, cooling and heating. For example, excess waste vapours and condensation products are recycled repeatedly. And this takes place with minimum temperature differences to allow careful treatment of the sensitive sugar solution throughout all process stages.
GEA PHE Systems meets these requirements with the new EVAPPlus, a fully welded plate heat exchanger which combines the properties of a plate heat exchanger with those of a tubular heat exchanger.
Retrofitting Robert evaporators
A further advantage of the EVAPPlus is that it retrofits easily into existing Robert evaporators. Exchanging the heating surface converts a natural circulation evaporator into a plate-type falling-film evaporator. The heating surface density (240 m²/m³) allows doubling or even tripling the existing tube surface. The high heat transfer of the GEA PHE Systems Retrofit Concept opens up completely new prospects to plant designers and operating companies. These include e.g. an increase of the number of stages, a reduction of the waste steam pressure and increased evaporator capacity.
Benefits:
- No changes of steel structure and building are necessary
- Pipework can continue to be used to a great extent.
- No need to open the roof
- In most cases installation is from the hall.
